This past Sunday, June 10th, we set up at Confluence Park in San Antonio for the Get Out and Play SA event.
This event was not to sell anything. In fact it wasn’t allowed. It was a FREE event for families and kids, to help promote outdoor activities. At a time where electronics are basically amazing, this is an important thing to do. I mean, a huge percentage of humans today, including kids, walk around with computers in their pocket. We can play games, browse the internet and go shopping pretty much anywhere we are. It’s important to teach kids what else there is to do. Computers are fun, but being outside is important too. As with anything, moderation is key.
We set up our table with all sorts of cool disc golf equipment. Magazines showing the World Champions, lots of discs, shirts, hats, a nice eye catching bag and of course a basket with some discs for testing. We gave everyone a basic run down of what disc golf is, how you play, where you play and then we just let them have fun throwing discs into the basket. A lot of people really seemed to enjoy it.
Thanks to everyone who made Get Out and Play a success and thanks for letting us make Disc Golf a part of it. They estimated about 250 people came to the event. These are all people looking for new things to get outside and do. It’s an amazing opportunity to grow the sport we all love.
