Gateway Disc Sports

Gateway Disc Sports was founded in 1994 by David McCormack with a mission to grow the sport of disc golf. Over the past twenty-five years, Gateway has developed more than 100 championship-caliber courses and has supported thousands of tournaments, charity events, players, and school clubs across the country.

Gateway Plastic Types

Gateway offers a wide range of plastic blends to suit every playing style and condition. Use the guide below to find the right plastic for your game.

Diamond (D)

Diamond plastic is a high-grade TPU blend known for its blend of durability and surface grip. Runs are available in clear, translucent, or opaque finishes and tend to fly more overstable than Suregrip or Platinum blends.

D-Glow

D-Glow combines Gateway's high-grade TPU (Diamond Blend) with strontium to produce a long-lasting, bright glow effect. The blend retains the durability and grip of standard Diamond plastic, and the clear or translucent runs help maximize glow intensity in low-light conditions.

Platinum (P)

Platinum is a blend of TPU (Thermo-Plastic-Urethane) and co-polyester TPE (Thermo-Plastic-Elastomer), with a ratio that incorporates approximately 70% recycled material. It offers slightly more surface grip than pure TPU, always comes in solid colors, and flies slightly less stable than Diamond plastic while remaining more overstable than Suregrip.

NXT

NXT (Nylon Xtra Tuff) is a prototype material developed in collaboration with the team at NYCOA. This proprietary blend prioritizes durability and is currently produced in a limited partnership exclusively for Gateway Disc Sports discs.

NXT Lite

NXT Lite uses the same Nylon Extra Tough Premium formula as NXT but is produced in lower weight categories of 159g and below.

Pure White (PW)

Pure White plastic uses a talc-filled polypropylene formula that reduces shrinkage, resulting in a flatter, lower-profile driving putter. The rim is firm for durability while the surface remains grippy. PW runs tend to be on the stiffer side and fly slightly more overstable.

Firm (F)

Firm discs feature a stiff rim with a slight flex in the flight plate, requiring 19–24 lbs of pressure to flex in half. This blend is well-suited for driving putters and layup shots, and is a popular choice for players who use a pendulum, push putt, or low-spin putting style. Firm plastic also holds up well on wooded holes and resists softening in warm temperatures.

Hemp (SS & SSS)

Hemp blends are available in both SureGrip and Diamond formulas. Diamond Hemp discs have a slightly firmer rim while the flight plate stays pliable. The addition of hemp fiber increases structural stability and creates a grittier surface texture that performs well in wet conditions.

Super Soft (SS)

The 2S blend features a slightly stiff rim with a pliable flight plate, flexing in half at 14–18 lbs of pressure. It works across a wide range of putting styles and is still firm enough to handle driving and layup shots.

Super Stupid Soft (SSS)

The 3S blend is flexible in both the rim and flight plate, flexing in half at 9–13 lbs of pressure. This level of flex works well for flick putters and chest putters where thumb pressure on the flight plate helps spring the disc out of the hand at release.

Super Stupid Silly Soft (SSSS)

4S putters are among the most flexible discs available while still holding their shape, flexing in half under 5 lbs of pressure. This extreme softness makes them a popular option for newer players who benefit from extra grip and forgiveness on off-center hits.

Superglow (GLO)

Superglow plastic uses strontium to produce a bright, long-lasting glow effect. Most Superglow putter runs fall between Firm and Super Soft in flex, and newer runs are being labeled with accurate flex ratings for easier identification.

Organic (OG)

Organic plastic is made from a combination of recycled rubber and a corn-based bio-polymer, making it an eco-friendly option. Most Organic discs have a chalky surface texture and fall between F and 2S in flex. Older runs may not be flex-marked, but future runs are planned to carry accurate flex ratings.

Eraser (ER)

The Eraser blend uses a specialized polymer mix that produces a tacky, eraser-like grip on the disc surface.

Money ($)

Money plastic is marked with a $ and can range from 2S to 4S in flex. Unlike standard Suregrip blends, Money uses a highly flexible elastomer that gives the disc a shiny appearance and develops a gummy feel with use.

Special Blend (SB)

Gateway's Special Blend plastic originates from prototype material samples sent by suppliers — either entirely new compounds or experimental additives to existing blends. Gateway began labeling these runs after several years of producing them, starting with SB-6 and currently up to SB-30. Batch quantities typically range from 60 to 300 discs, and due to their experimental nature, exact recreation isn't always possible. The current SB-30 formulation is one that Gateway can reproduce and may ultimately become the permanent Special Blend.

Lunar (L)

Lunar plastic incorporates grippy black rubber into the SSS (Super Stupid Soft) base blend, delivering a unique combination of softness, tackiness, and comfort that's ideal for putting. The SSS foundation provides a highly flexible, forgiving feel, while the rubber additive enhances grip in a variety of weather conditions.
